Ingo Hampe
I’m a photographer, a mindful observer, and a lifelong student of the inner and outer world.
My photographic journey began in Hannover, Germany, where I received my first camera at the age of 14. I quickly realized that photography has always meant more to me than just capturing fleeting moments. The camera became my constant companion – on my travels, on the street, with my friends.
Even though photography was a hobby for me, I photographed with an artistic approach, eager to make a difference with my work, and have an impact on the way people see themselves and their environment.
The drive to continually develop myself motivated me, and so I began working with independent traveling models in 2018. I wanted to tell something about life itself and hoped that through this collaboration I would learn something about myself. This taught me to communicate my ideas and seeing deeply the sitter but in the end, I took fashion-like portraits and nude images. It didn’t helped me to explore and make sense of the world within.
Today, I practice what I call conscious photography—a contemplative approach rooted in mindfulness, inspired by the Japanese aesthetics of wabi-sabi and the simplicity of Zen. I aim to capture the beauty in the ordinary, the poetry in the overlooked. Photography, for me, is a meditative act. It’s a way to slow down, to pay attention, and to reconnect with my inner self. By pointing my camera at mundane moments and everyday subjects in my environment, I aim to achieve a state of mind of calm, appreciation, and kindness.
I believe that photography can be a tool for personal growth. It teaches us to be present and it invites us to see the world—and ourselves—without judgment.
Through my work, I hope to offer images that feel honest and alive. Photographs that speak not just to the eye, but to the heart.
